With Hip Hop officially turning 50 years old this year, some of the genres dopest producers have decided to honor the moment by providing some great music to celebrate the occasion. Back in July of 2022, Mass Appeal linked up with the legendary DJ Premier and dropped off a 5 track EP titled “Hip Hop 50:Vol.1“. The EP featured some of the greatest artist to ever touch a pen and provided pure heat for the hip hop purest. Run The Jewels and Rapsody were just a few of the greats that showed up to bless the project. Fast forward 9 months later and Mass Appeal is back with the second installment to the series. This time around for “Hip Hop 50:Vol 2“, the Bronx native Swizz Beats has been tasked with providing the production.
With a total of 6 tracks and a run time of a little less than 20 minutes, the star studded project is packed with a who’s who of A-list of amazing talent. Nas and Lil Wayne who blessed the first installment of the series, returns this time around with more heat. Nas opens the project with the banger “Runaway” and Weezy follows up with the previously teased single “This Shit Right Here“.
Swizz really pulled a pump fake with the promotion by implying that Lil Wayne and Jay Z would connecting for the track, yet the end result only had a Hov sample on the hook. I can not be mad at the logic, it got the blogs and the internet talking. Still yet, the track turned out to be flames and Weezy ate the verse.
I work the chopper like sheers, n*gga / Uncut white girl, call that brick a Brittany without the Spears, n*gga
The rest of the EP is as equally dope. The only track that probably will not get repeat listens is the Jadakiss, Benny The Butcher & Scar Lip collaboration cut “Take ‘Em Out.” Overall all 3 mc’s deliver top notch bars, it is just that chorus is ass. But other than that, the EP is worth a few spins. It seems that the genre Hip Hop is still good hands and is poised to be on top for the next 50 years. Especially with projects like this, I am sure, we the fans have nothing to worry about. So go load up for go-to DSP and give “Hip Hop 50:Vol.2” by Swizz Beatz a listen. Let know how you feel about the project in the comments.
