I will be the first to admit that I had no clue who Da Great Ape was before I peeped his latest offering. Yet after I heard his “Str8Drop” mixtape, I instantly became mad at myself for letting him slip under the radar. Da Great Ape is without a doubt a voice that the hip hop community needs at the moment. If you are a fan of T.I., Jeezy, Gucci Mane, etc.., and you miss that OG trap sound, then Da Great Ape is what you need in your headphones. Hailing out of southern ATL, Da Great Ape burst onto the scene with his introductory EP “Ape Shit” in 2018. Yet it was in 2019, with the debut of his “Last Dope Boy Left” mixtape and a major cosign from T.I., that Da Great Ape established himself as a major force in Atlanta. Now in 2020, he is back with his latest release “Str8Drop“. The project is brief at only 9 tracks, yet that does not distract from the effectiveness of the offering. YFN Lucci and Rick Ross show up as the only 2 features, with the latter guesting on the first single “Quarter Brick.” Give “Str8Drop” by Da Great Ape a listen below.
